Born in 1982, Lau Wai lives and works in Hong Kong. She obtained her BA (Hons) in Fine Art from the Goldsmiths College of the University of London in 2007. Lau was awarded the Warden’s Art Prize upon graduation. In 2014, she was selected as the finalist of Xitek New Photo Award (Beijing) as well as in the 7th Three Shadows Photography Award in 2015 (Beijing).
Her works primarily explore the confluent relationship between history, personal memories and the notion of belonging. She has exhibited her works locally and internationally, such as in Brandts Museum (Odense, Denmark, 2016), Les Photaumnales 2016 (Beauvais, France, 2016), Institute of Contemporary Arts (Singapore, 2016), OCAT Shenzhen (Shenzhen, China, 2016),Para Site (Hong Kong, 2015), Three Shadows Photography Art Centre (Beijing, China, 2015), Echigo Tsumari Art Triennale (Japan, 2015), The 6th Dali International Photography Festival (Dali, China, 2015), The 9th & the 10th Lianzhou International Photo Festival (Lianzhou, China, 2013 & 2014).
